Most Expensive Wedding in History?

The bride, Isha Ambani, is the Ivy League-educated daughter of industrialist Mukesh Ambani, thought to be India’s richest man. Forbes estimates his net worth at over $43 billion.
The groom, Anand Piramal, is the relative pauper. His father, industrialist Ajay Piramal, is thought to be worth $10 billion.

The wedding is being held in Mumbai on Wednesday but festivities began weeks ago, starting in September with an engagement party at a lakeside Italian palace. Over the weekend, thousands attended pre-wedding parties at a 16th century palace in the Indian desert city of Udaipur, where videos shot by partiers showed Hillary Clinton dancing with Shah Rukh Khan, one of India’s biggest movie stars, as former U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry danced just a few feet away.
A highlight was a performance by Beyonce, who sang “Crazy In Love,” among other hits, with a band backing her up and a series of costume changes that included at least one India-inspired outfit.

Traditions & Customs - 'The Honeymoon'

The word honeymoon has its roots in the Norse word 'hjunottsmanathr' and originates from a time when the groom kidnapped the bride before taking her into hiding for a period of time. They would spend the nights under the moon in seclusion together where they would drink mead made from fermented honey.

Traditionally, although the destination of the honeymoon would be decided by both the bride and groom, any arrangements would be the responsibility of the groom. Nowadays it is more likely that the couple will share the planning of their honeymoon.

Wedding Blessings

A wedding blessing is normally performed after a civil ceremony and is usually seen as a way for the couple to confirm their commitment to each other in church. It differs from a marriage ceremony because it is not an official marriage service nor is it legally binding or governed by law.
There is no official paperwork involved as the legal requirements have already been met at the civil ceremony. A blessing is normally performed in church, although it can take place at an outside venue.

Wedding Etiquette - The Speeches

The traditional order of speeches are as follows:
The bride's father proposes a toast to the bride and groom.
The bride's father continues, with an insight into his daughter.
The groom then responds on behalf of his wife and himself. The groom usually uses this opportunity to say 'My wife and I' for the first time. This is usually followed by a round of applause from the guests.

Wedding Rehearsal Dinner

Rehearsal Dinner

Whilst in the USA Wedding Rehearsal Dinners are the 'norm', here in the UK they are optional.
An informal dinner immediately after the wedding rehearsal gives an opportunity for those involved with the wedding celebrations to relax and get acquainted before the big day.

Traditionally the groom's parents would host and pay for the event, but today many couples budget for it in their wedding planning and in some cases choose to host it themselves.

Etiquette - The Gift List

The Gift List
The tradition of giving wedding gifts to the newlyweds originates from a time when the couple would have spent their lives, prior to marriage, in their parental homes. Marriage was - and often still is - a time of setting up the new marital home from scratch. It was usual for friends or older relatives to contribute items of kitchenware, furniture or money to give the couple a helping hand.

Today, however, the reality is that very few couples start from scratch, often having lived independent of the parental home for some time prior to the marriage. The gift list was introduced to prevent duplication of the same gift. The couple compile their list of required items and then make that list available to anyone who intends to give a gift. This saves guests wasting money and time by giving a gift which is either unsuitable or is a duplication.

Wedding Tips - Gifts & Favours

Wedding Tips - Wedding Gifts & Favours

Most women love weddings. Maybe it's the variety of beautiful styles, themes, and ideas that we see uniquely showcased at each wedding. No two weddings are alike. A wedding can be grand and extravagant - or simple and elegant. Something that can be intriguing at weddings are the gifts and favours.

Wedding gifts and favours are a way for the bride and groom to express their appreciation and thanks to their honoured guests. It may surprise some modern brides to find out that long ago, the bride and groom were expected to provide gifts for their guests instead of the reverse. Today there are even wedding registries that tell the guest exactly what and how much to buy. If you'd like to strike a balance between the bygone days and the more modern, you can offer at least a small remembrance to your guests.
