'Josh Wedding'

Retired miners are reviving an unusual industry tradition by dressing up as a bride and groom for a pretend wedding to mark Yorkshire Day.

Devised in 1911, a "Josh wedding" was a way of raising money to pay for a hospital bed for injured miners.

Wedding Etiquette - The Speeches

The traditional order of speeches are as follows:
The bride's father proposes a toast to the bride and groom.
The bride's father continues, with an insight into his daughter.
The groom then responds on behalf of his wife and himself. The groom usually uses this opportunity to say 'My wife and I' for the first time. This is usually followed by a round of applause from the guests.

Whilst in the USA Wedding Rehearsal Dinners are the 'norm', here in the UK they are optional.
An informal dinner immediately after the wedding rehearsal gives an opportunity for those involved with the wedding celebrations to relax and get acquainted before the big day.

Traditionally the groom's parents would host and pay for the event, but today many couples budget for it in their wedding planning and in some cases choose to host it themselves.

Bride marries after crocodile attack

A bride walked down the aisle five days after her arm was ripped off by a crocodile.

Zanele Ndlovu, 25, and her British husband said it was a "miracle" that she survived the mauling on April 30 near Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe.
